PREPARATORY SCHOOL

Pre-Prep

The aim of our Pre-Prep department is to foster a strong partnership between home and school, and to provide a secure, happy and caring environment that promotes a child´s happiness, independence and citizenship.

Children enter the Pre-Prep in the academic year in which they will turn five and progress through Kindergarten, Form 1 and Form 2, before entering the Main School, after their seventh birthday. Our pupils develop their interests and talents in small classes, with caring enthusiastic teachers, with whom they spend their entire day. Here too, we ensure that classrooms are vibrant and stimulating, with lots of children´s work, "hands-on" displays and resources around the room to foster the children´s natural curiosity and thirst for learning.

Literacy and Numeracy provide the main emphasis of the curriculum throughout our three classes. A priority is to instill a love of books and of reading - providing wonderful opportunities for creative language work. As the children progress through the Pre-Prep, grammar, handwriting and spelling are taught as more formal lessons.

Numeracy skills are taught through a "hands-on", practical approach. Our enthusiastic attitude towards mathematics ensures that the children see it as a fun and creative subject.

Science, Design Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Music and French make up the rest of the Pre-Prep´s busy (and fun) timetable. History, Geography and Religious Education are taught as half termly topics. As in the Main school, we place great emphasis on Games with football, netball, ballet, swimming, tennis, athletics, gym, cricket and general ball skills all being taught throughout the three classes.

Educational trips are organised throughout the year to complement topics that we are learning. The Pre-Prep holds many school events during the course of each year, to which parents are warmly invited.
